Extreme Adventure conversion

Hi all,
Anybody able to offer advise on how to convert the Extreme Adventure (42069) truck from tracks to wheels? I have the rear wheels done but I’m at my wits end with the front wheels. My problem is I don’t want to loose the 4wd capability of the truck.

Thanks Philip, I’ve been through that thread a few times but it doesn’t have the detail, there are a few pics on Pinterest as well from others but nothing simple enough for me yet.  I suppose I should pose the question on that thread and see if those lads have any idea.  Cheers again

The combination of driving and steering on the same axle is very tricky in Technic! The only official sets that I've come across that do it are the 8880 supercar and the 8466 off-roader, both of which used specialised parts to achieve it.

The specialised parts used in 8466 can be seen close-up in this video, but you also need wheels that fit those hubs, and not all Technic wheels will work.

Hi Tom, I think you may be onto something with that YouTube video, I think I’m going to have to build the whole front axle arrangement specifically to take the wheels. That’s going to be some challenge for my current skill level!

That's a really smart solution to the problem.

Back when I was a kid I faced the same problem when I built this 4x4 Landrover. I ended up making a front axle with the 2x2 flat swivels with a standard universal joint going through. Very bulky and a huge offset with limited steering lock.

The solution above solves all that.

Come to think of it I only had 1 differential at the time and that had to go on the front so I probably couldn't have taken much steering lock anyway!

Really impressive that you were making 4wd Technic models at that age!
